Bob Blackman MP’s Marathon ‘Tour of Temples’ for Hindu New Year

bob_blackmanBob Blackman, MP for Harrow East, does an annual ‘Tour of Temples’ to celebrate Hindu New Year. This year he was joined by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice, Shailesh Vara, as well as local Councillors Ramji Chauhan, Manji Kara, Pritesh Patel, Vina Mithani and Mina Parmar.

The tour, which began before 8am and ended near to 11pm with a Grand Diwali Party thrown by the Kashmiri Pandits Cultural Society UK, took in eight temples in Stanmore, Kenton, Harrow, Willesden, Ealing Road, Neasden and Kingsbury.

Bob Blackman commented, “It is impossible not to become caught up in the spirit of the New Year celebrations and we all had a fantastic time meeting with the congregants and sharing in the jubilant atmosphere. We received a wonderful warm welcome at every temple we visited, for which I am very grateful. There was a lot of fun to be had as well; I particularly enjoyed playing some cricket at Stanmore Temple and was impressed to see that Diabetes tests were being offered there as well.“

Diwali is the considered the most important festival of the year for millions of Hindus and the day following Diwali marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year, which is celebrated with gifts, thanksgiving feasts and merriment across the UK and around the world.
