Bob Says: Unemployment in Harrow continues to fall

bob_blackmanNewly released figures show that the number of unemployed claimants in Harrow continues to fall. Between January 2012 and January 2013 the claimant count fell by 11%, as 435 more people entered employment. Even more encouragingly, the figures show a marked decline in the number of unemployed claimants in the 18-34 age group. One of the most affected groups during the recession, nearly 59% of the fall can be attributed to individuals falling into this category.

Bob Blackman, MP for Harrow East, welcomed the news, stating that the figures reflected the effectiveness of the approach taken by the Government since 2010.

“In my constituency, the unemployment rate now stands at just 3.1%. This means that Harrow East has one of the lowest rates of unemployment in the country. The Government inherited a very fragile economy and I am pleased to see that the policies since introduced, such as the Welfare-to-Work scheme, are beginning to pay dividends”.
