Avanti House – Consultation on Permanent Home Begins

In October 2011, the Government announced that a new free school, proposed by the Avanti Schools Trust, will open in the Harrow or Barnet area in September 2012. The proposed free school, called Avanti House School, is an all through school with two forms of entry for primary school and six forms of entry for the secondary school. No permanent site for the free school has been decided yet.

Harrow Council has agreed to allow Avanti House School to open on a temporary basis for one academic year from September. This means Year 7 pupils will be located at the Teachers’ Centre in Tudor Road, Wealdstone, while a further two Reception classes will be accommodated at the Krishna-Avanti Primary School in Camrose Avenue, Edgware subject to planning permission.

Avanti Schools Trust is required by the Government to consult on its proposed location for the school. The Trust has now identified the Teachers’ Centre site as its preferred permanent location following discussions with the Department of Education and Harrow Council. This site has been identified in the Area Action Plan as a school site and it is the only site potentially large enough to accommodate the proposed school.

Initially, two drop-in sessions have been arranged by Avanti Schools Trust and the Council where you can find out more about the plans and share your aspirations and concerns. The details of the sessions are:

  • Tuesday 3 July, 5.30 pm to 9.30 pm at Harrow Teachers’ Centre
  • Saturday 7 July, 10.00 am to 3.00 pm at Harrow Teachers’ Centre

You can find out more and respond to the Harrow Council’s consultation via the Harrow Council Website http://harrow-consult.limehouse.co.uk/portal
