Avanti House School Finds a Home!

Avanti House School, which we’ve written about many times before, has finally – finally! – announced it’s new home, albeit it’s on a temporary basis.

Since the Government announced late last year that an application to open a free school in the borough had been successful, Harrow Council has been working with the applicant, Avanti Schools Trust and the Department for Education (DfE) to identify a suitable site.

The new arrangement means the school will be able to open in September, but only on a temporary basis, giving time for a proper consultation with residents to decide what happens after the year is up.

The agreement allows the Trust to open Avanti House School at the Teachers’ Centre in Tudor Road, Wealdstone on a temporary basis. The Council has agreed that from September up to five classes for year 7 secondary pupils
(150, 11 year-olds) can be taught at the Teachers’ Centre while two Avanti House Reception (60, 5 year-olds) primary classes will be accommodated at the Krishna Avanti School in Camrose Avenue, Edgware.

Portfolio Holder for Schools at Harrow Council, Cllr Brian Gate said: “In the interest of Harrow families, we have come up with a temporary solution that allows the school to open this school term. This also gives the opportunity and space for a robust engagement and consultation process for a more long term solution. I am very aware residents will have concerns, especially related to increased traffic and loss of open spaces. My fellow councillors and I will be seeking assurances that those concerns are fully addressed by the Avanti Schools Trust during the consultation process.”
