Cedars kicks off in Style

From both Harrow Council and Watford FC Community Sports & Education Trust, the message was clear : this is clearly a world-class facility set to serve the local Harrow community, and especially young people.

Speaking at the launch, Cllr Bill Stephenson, Harrow Council Leader, said: “This is a truly inspirational partnership with Watford FC’s Community Trust. I’m sure local young people have got what they wanted through Cedars.”

Cedars Youth and Ccommunity Centre was awarded a £4million grant under the Myplace programme from the Department of Education, Watford FC’s Community Sports and Education Trust partnered with Harrow Council to make the joint vision for the project a reality.

“…we can really make a difference to those around us.” – Graham Taylor OBE

“I’m delighted to know that there have been many young people involved in the creation of Cedars,” said Tim Loughton MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Children’s Services, when speaking at the launch of Cedars YCC (Youth & Community Centre).

Graham Taylor OBE, Watford FC’s non-executive Chairman, added: “Watford was football’s first family club. During my first 10 years with the club, we made great strides in engaging our community – although that wasn’t recognized as much as our football achievements.

“Cedars is a perfect example of how, through our Community Sports & Education Trust working in close partnership with an organisation as forward-thinking as Harrow Council, we can really make a difference to those around us.”

The Centre offers a range of activities for both young and older members of the community with education packages delivered in partnership with local schools and the delivery of a comprehensive youth and wider community programme.

Cedars boasts a new 4G astro turf football pitch, an indoor climbing wall, a community cafe, ICT suite, meeting rooms, an indoor sports hall, dance studios, gym and social spaces.
