Charities Challenge Harrow’s Funding Cuts

Five local charities have forced Harrow Council to review its decision to cut their funding.  The process allows the charities to challenge the council if 150 or more residents support them.

Harrow and Wealdstone Shopmobility and the Harrow Association of Disabled People are just two of the groups who have collected petitions.

Whilst the Council is obliged to review its decision, it can, of course, simply re-confirm it’s earlier decision not to fund them.  Whether the process will change anything is anybody’s guess at the moment, but it seems that the ‘call-in’ system only comes into play when the process is questioned, not simply because people don’t like the outcome.

We’ll report back once we hear more.
