Dave “Announces” New Cabinet. Same Turkeys, Different Gravy.

dave_noheadDave (not pictured right, and any resemblance is purely coincidental) has “announced” his new cabinet this week. Actually, “announced” may be a too-stronger word for it, as the details came out on front of the agenda papers for cabinet, rather than any kind of public proclamation from Dave’s bunch.  But given that Dave’s Leader’s Blog was last updated some three months ago, you shouldn’t be too surprised.

The new line up is:

Councillor Sue Anderson Community, Culture and Resident Engagement
Councillor Simon Brown Children, Schools and Young People
Councillor Keith Ferry Deputy Leader, Business, Planning and Regeneration
Councillor Glen Hearnden Housing
Councillor Graham Henson Environment, Crime and Community Safety
Councillor Varsha Parmar Public Health, Equality and Wellbeing
Councillor Kiran Ramchandani Performance, Corporate Resources and Policy   Development
Councillor Sachin Shah Finance and Major Contracts
Councillor Anne Whitehead Adults and Older People

Contrast this with the previous cabinet:

Councillor Sue Anderson Community, Culture and Resident Engagement
Councillor Simon Brown Children, Schools and Young People
Councillor Margaret Davine Adults and Older People
Councillor Keith Ferry Deputy Leader, Business, Planning and Regeneration
Councillor Glen Hearnden Housing
Councillor Graham Henson Performance, Corporate Resources and Policy   Development
Councillor Varsha Parmar Environment, Crime and Community Safety
Councillor Sachin Shah Finance and Major Contracts
Councillor Anne Whitehead Public Health, Equality and Wellbeing

So we can see that Cllr Davine has been given her marching orders (as predicted here), and Cllr Whitehead moved from Public Health, Equality and Wellbeing to take over from her. Filling in for Cllr Whitehead is Cllr Varsha Parmar – who hopefully will make a better job of that, than she did for Environment, Crime and Community Safety. So, Community Safety goes to Cllr Henson, who hands his own hot and sticky portfolio of Performance, Corporate Resources and Policy Development to newly-elected Cllr Kiran Ramchandani.

No doubt we’ll see over coming months if this change works out. Cllr Parmar was well-known not to be able to answer any questions at cabinet in her old role: perhaps she’ll fair better with a different set of responsibilities.
