First tenants announced at Harrow’s £1.28m urban park

harrow_council_logoHarrow College will run the café and performance space in a new £1.28m urban park in Harrow Town Centre, as part of a unique partnership with the Council to breathe new life into the area.

Opening in Spring next year, the uniquely-designed open space will come to life with a range of events.

The College will oversee the activities in the performance space and the café for visitors and shoppers as well as providing a hands-on learning experience for its students.

Urban design and landscape architects, Adams & Sutherland, have designed the multi-use park. The £1.28m transformation of the space has been supported by the Mayor’s Outer London Fund, which is helping to increase the vibrancy and growth of high street places across London.

It will include:

  • A performance space of about 50 sq m
  • A small eat-in café of about 16 sq m and “out-of-hours” service hatch for commuter coffee
  • Outdoor children’s play area
  • 45 sq m external café terrace
  • 80 sq m External performance space which can be used as a café terrace
  • Extensive landscaped grounds with trees that will become landmarks over time

Harrow Council Cabinet Member for Business and Enterprise Cllr Kamaljit Chana said: “We are very pleased to announce Harrow College will be the first tenants at what will be a fantastic asset for our town centre. Lowlands is one of several projects designed to breathe new life into the heart of Harrow and forms part of our vision of a cleaner and safer town centre, which is a pleasant place to live, work and visit.”

Pat Carvalho, Vice Principal at Harrow College said: “We are delighted to be the first tenant of Lowlands and look forward to being able to make a positive contribution to Harrow’s Town Centre and residents.”

The Council secured funding for the project through the Mayor of London’s Outer London Fund which will be used to transform Harrow Town Centre into a retail and cultural destination to match any London Borough. The Lowlands scheme is one of several interrelated projects to improve the network of public spaces in and around Harrow Town Centre.
