Harrow Conservative Group: Cllr Stephen Wright

cllr_stephen_wrightCllr. Stephen Wright has lived in Pinner since birth. Educated at Bristol and Bath Universities, his first employment was in IT as a systems analyst. He then progressed into management consultancy where, for more than thirty five years, he has travelled extensively delivering assignments for global clients in both the public and private sectors.

Cllr. Wright has had a strong interest in politics and joined his local Ward Committee in 1986. However, he was unable to take a more active interest until he had stopped his heavy work and travel schedule. He was selected to stand as a candidate in the 2010 elections and was successfully elected as a Councillor for Pinner Ward.

He is a dedicated committee member, serving on both the Planning and the Overview and Scrutiny Committees as well as several Sub-Committees. He enjoys the challenge these roles provide and being able to help make constructive improvements to strengthen Council policy and operations. He hopes his extensive business experience can benefit the Council by providing logic, process and in depth analysis to recommendations for change, helping to bring improvement and cost effective efficiency to council services.

During his time on the Council, Cllr Wright has helped deliver various local campaigns including: the regeneration of Pinner’s retail and commercial area, submitting a 3,000+ signature petition to Council to reduce Pinner parking charges, and helping residents voice their concerns over the Council’s plans for Bedford House

Residential Care Home. He is also a Governor of two schools, Canons High School and Pinner Wood Primary School. He was instrumental in Pinner Wood ’s successful campaign to be included in the Mayor of London’s energy efficiency ‘Re:Fit’ programme, and the implementation of vehicle activated speed warnings on Pinner Hill Road. He has also funded (NIS) parking improvements in Pinner High Street and Pinner Green.

Married with three grown up children, Cllr Wright is friendly and approachable and enjoys fostering positive relationships with residents and officers alike. He believes in serving the residents and businesses of Pinner to resolve Council issues and tries to respond to resident enquiries within 24 hours.

His interests include the arts, music and sport, particularly rugby, golf and the Premiership. He also has a keen interest in 20the Century history and has written books about the lives of relatives who were casualties in both World Wars.
