Harrow Council 2014-15 Budget: Consultation a Piss Take

harrow_council_logoHarrow Council is due to pass its budget at a meeting on the 25th February, 2014.

You can offer your views on the budget here, until March 31, 2104. Note this is exactly one full month after a decision will be taken, so it’s a bit of con asking for your views once they’ve decided what to do…

Amusingly, only ONE question asks what you think of the budget. The remainders ask for:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your age group
  • Your disability, if any
  • Whether you’re married
  • Whether you’re in a civil partnership
  • Whether you’ve been pregnant in the last two years
  • Your ethic origin
  • Your religion
  • Your sex
  • Your gender identity
  • Your sexual orientation

Apart from the stupidty of collecting so much information, all this is passed, unencrypted, over the internet, and will be stored by the council, thus giving them the potential for building up a huge database of residents linked to their sexual preference and whether they’ve had a sex change. Damn any consideration for what residents think of the budget…

I believe in evolution. So will it be ok if I put my ethnic origin down as ape.

  2. Cllr Willy Stoodley

Actually apes are our distant cousins; the common ancestor is a mammal now extinct but known as “Pro-Consul”. But I’m good with your theory!

  3. Cllr. Paul Osborn

Thanks for pointing this out. I have got this changed, so the date is correct and it doesn’t ask for that kind of personal data.

  4. Cllr Willy Stoodley

dot dot dot and sorry for the screw-up???!!

Professor Bryan Sykes in his research analysed mtDNA and traced modern Europeans back to a common maternal ancestor, known as “Mitochondrial Eve”.

It is generally assumed that Mitochondrial Eve originated in East Africa, so I have always put “African” on overly intrusive forms that ask for my ethnic origin.
