Harrow Council Employs ‘Crisis Manager’ in Education

harrow_council_logo2Spotted today, we see that Harrow Council’s Education Department has recruited an “crisis manager” into the organisation. The new employee, who we’ve chosen not to name, says he has been “Trusted to advise, brief and represent senior executives and leading politicians” and has a “Proven record in placing lead articles and features in national and overseas media.”

According to his LinkedIn profile, the new “PR Campaign Manager (Education) will be:

  • Managing internal and external communications for Harrow’s £70mln School Expansion Programme
  • Designing and implementing project strategy for community engagement and media relations
  • Building mutually beneficial relationships with stakeholders including teachers, parents and residents
  • Programme will deliver 1,000 much-needed school places, over 3 phases of building and renovation

The new role probably won’t demand much of his French-speaking abilities, not his limited working Russian-speaking skills.

His profile lists the following, as a summary, of his work to date:

  • Accomplished and confident comms strategist, campaign leader and crisis manager
  • Trusted to advise, brief and represent senior executives and leading politicians
  • Proven record in placing lead articles and features in national and overseas media
  • Approachable leader and mentor, committed to training and managing by example
  • Hard-working details man and clear communicator with persuasive pitching style
  • Wealth of contacts from a decade as a business journalist and broadcast executive
  • Exceptional grasp of what makes news, how it’s covered and what consumers want
  • Unblemished record of delivering outstanding results across all disciplines

It seems an odd strategic move – perhaps Harrow Council are expecting the need for a bit of good spin on their school expansion plan. However, we’re tickled to see one of his previous roles: “Senior Line Producer ‘Countdown'” in 2010 – 2012.

countdown_blooperObligatory shot of a blooper on Countdown – no idea if this was on his watch or not, but worth including all the same…

Thanks to G for the tip off.
