Harrow Council Issues ‘Frozen Rubbish’ Alert

leftover_foodHarrow Council has issued what it calls a ‘Frozen Rubbish Alert!” to bring residents’ attention to garden waste that may be stuck in bins.

It says that “During the cold weather, garden waste may freeze and remain stuck in the bin.  Please ensure that all waste is loose to ensure that it is collected by the refuse crews.”

Quite how residents are supposed to ensure that garden waste doesn’t become frozen solid in the bottom of the brown bin isn’t entirely clear, although lighting a small fire inside probably isn’t the recommended approach. We’d suggest placing a few pages from your local free paper in the bottom, before loading the bin up with discarded turkey bones, leftover brussel sprouts and the like.
