Harrow Council Still Trumpeting Old MJ Trophy

mj_winnerHarrow Council’s headed notepaper – the picture shows a clip from a letter dated earlier this month – seems to still be trumpeting their win of the 2011 MJ Awards for ‘Best Achieving Council’. Congratulations all round, then.

However, they seems to have forgotten that there have been another round of MJ Awards since then, and that trophy was won by Sunderland City Council. Harrow picked up a less prestigious award of Transformation through IT for their ‘MyHarrow’ online account. Almost laughable, given the number of IT problems the Council has experienced in the last few months.

The entries for 2013’s awards closed on February 15th this year – and were extended as, possibly, not enough councils managed to get their nominations in on time.

The 2013 Awards will be held at the London Park Lane Hilton in late June, where, no doubt, many of those nomated can roll up for the drinks reception at 6.45pm, watch the presentations starting at 10.30pm, and then enjoy live entertainment until 1.30am the next morning. The cost of booking a table isn’t mentioned on the MJ’s website, but we’re sure it won’t come cheap, and with rooms at the same hotel starting at £259 for the night, it could turn out to be a very expensive night for any councils attending. Still, it’ll be residents’ money well spent, and a win – of any kind – would look good on Harrow Chief Exec Michael Lockwood’s CV.
