Harrow Council to Dim Streetlights

street_lightHarrow Council has decided to go ahead with a policy which will see streetlights across the borough dimmed by 20% and by 50% during the quietest hours of night-time – possibly from midnight until 4.00am.

In a recent consultation, out of residents who responded , 45% of people wanted an overall dimming by 20%, and 47% wanted 50% dimming during the quieter hours. Harrow Council seems to have decided to go ahead with BOTH options, which should save upto 6.6% of the yearly £733,000 lighting bill. Indeed, street lighting accounts for a quarter of the council’s electricity consumption, and 12% of it’s carbon emissions.
