Harrow Council to Waive Road Closure Fees for Big Lunch Event

harrow_council_logoBreak out the bunting – Harrow Council is waiving road closure fees for any residents holding a big community lunch this June.

It’s that time of year again when neighbours up and down the country will gather together for a bite to eat and toast what makes their community great.

The Big Lunch takes place on June 1, and to mark the occasion Harrow Council will not charge the fees that would normally apply when closing a road. Residents will still need to apply and have until April 30 to do so.

Harrow Council environmental services manager Dave Corby said: “Street parties can be a great opportunity to celebrate your area and get to know your neighbours better. We would encourage anyone who is thinking about organising one to apply for a road closure order so that they can have a safe party and hopefully get the whole street involved!”

To request a road closure application form call: 020 8424 1884.

There are some things to think about when you apply, such as taking out insurance, and one of the officers from our Highways Team can give information on what is needed.

The Big Lunch is a very simple idea from the Eden Project. The aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the country to have lunch with their neighbours on the same day.

Since starting in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all types of communities. Last year 3.65 million people took to their streets, gardens and community spaces for the fifth annual Big Lunch.
