Harrow Council’s “Harrow Deals” website: 60% more expensive than Amazon.

harrow_council_broken_2Harrow Council launched the Harrow Deals website a few months ago, to much fanfare: “Harrow Deals is a discounts site which presents you with fantastic local and national bargains,” said the council. “You’ll find slashed prices at Harrow’s bars and restaurants, mobile phone deals, sports & leisure offers, flowers, balloons and so much more,” it continued, with all the finesse and charm of a pock-faced pimp left with nothing more than a toothless crack-whore.

But is it really a “discounts site” – or is it, frankly, Sach, all a load of cobblers? This week’s “Deal of the Week” is a set of Beats by Dr Dre Solo2 wired/wireless Bluetooth headset.

The Harrow deal is £195, down from £276 apparently, giving you, Sach, a saving of £81 or 29% – that’s the one on the left, below.

Amazon, on the other hand has the same offer, direct from Beats by Dr Dre, at £121.25, down from £169, giving you a saving of £48.74 or again, 29%. That image is on the right, below.

Both prices include VAT and delivery. But one will cost you 60% more.

20160530_deals_scamStill trust your council? Caveat emptor.

Why is the council entering into the internet retail business about which it knows nothing about as is proven by your example. Surely it would be better for the council to try to give better value for money for residents who have to pay a disgraceful amount in tax each month. But what can one expect from this stupid lot thats supposed to be in charge.

Not sure if you have really seen the deal on Harrow Deals site as the Beats headphone model you are comparing to with Amazon are different. The deal on Harrow Deals site was for the Beats By Dr. Dre Solo2 Wireless Over Ear Headphones – Black version (priced £202.24 in Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00TKGVBCG/ref=psdc_564480_t2_B00KD805BS)
whereas the one highlighted here is the Solo2 Wired version (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KD805BS/ref=psdc_564480_t1_B00TKGVBCG).

I appreciate the efforts by the Council in this innovative approach to provide its residents & local businesses with great value platform with the one-stop deals site.

caveat emptor but with genuine facts & sense 😉

the councils have to diversify and be more commercial to meet the ever growing needs of their population. if councils failed to make investments, the amount of tax you would have to pay would at least double

Shame the council decided to include national internet-only deals which are exactly what is helping to close our high streets. It is worth knowing that after the initial launch the council intend (if they aren’t already doing so) to charge local traders to have deals included on the site/emails.
