Harrow Independent Labour Group: Cllr Will Stoodley

cllr_william_stoodley_2Cllr Will Stoodley, Portfolio Holder for Planning & Regeneration

Will brings the following key skills to the role:

  • Communication Skills (written and verbal)
  • Professional Experience from the Land Registry, Legal Training & Experience of the Planning Committee
  • Local knowledge & the importance of balancing the needs of diverse communities

Will Stoodley was born in Edgware and spent his childhood between boarding school in Berkshire, his Aunt and Uncles’ home in Hendon and, from 1976 to 1979, his father’s auberge [an Inn, in French-speaking countries] in Brittany, during which time he became fluent in French. Will left school in 1982 for an apprenticeship in Woodwind Musical Instrument making, becoming a partner of the firm and a highly skilled craftsman in the process. Regrettably John Major’s recession killed off demand for the Oboes, Cor Anglais and Clarinets that Will was making, so he joined the Civil Service and served 20 years at H.M. Land Registry in Lyon Road, Harrow, until its closure. During that time Will was promoted twice, becoming a senior member of staff and also branch chair of the local union, as well as studying part time for a degree in law at Coventry University in which he achieved a 2:1 with Honours. After the Harrow Land Registry closed he took the Legal Practice Course and qualified to work as a trainee solicitor for a firm in Pinner and then Willesden Green.

Since his election in 2010 Will has served Harrow Council on the Corporate Parenting Panel, the Grants Advisory Panel, the Licensing and General Purposes Committee, the Licensing Panel Shortlist, the Local Development Framework Panel, the Personal Appeals Panel Shortlist, the Planning Committee and the Supporting People Advisory Panel, and is a representative for the Bentley Priory Nature Reserve Management Committee, the Harrow Association of Disabled People and the Port of London Authority.

Will said: “My experience and expertise gleaned from 20 years’ service with the Land Registry which included producing maps and plans in both manual and computerised form, combined with the legal knowledge that I have from being in Practice and sitting on the Planning Committee makes an excellent font of knowledge with which to take on the portfolio for Planning and Regeneration and I am delighted with my appointment.”

I have nothing against Cllr Stoodley and I have never even met him, but I think it’s a bit much for him to claim to be “a representative for the Bentley Priory Nature Reserve Management Committee”. As a genuine member of that Management Committee, I can state categorically that the records show he has never once attended a Bentley Priory Nature Reserve Management Committee meeting and no apologies from him have ever yet been recorded in the minutes. He was not at last week’s meeting, for example, and I know he received the agenda because I forwarded it myself to both of his email addresses and received a delivery acknowledgement. To be fair, I believe he once attended a sub-committee meeting on the Furze Heath grassland restoration project, which is not the same thing.
This kind of sloppy pretence at fulfilling important-sounding roles makes me wonder about the validity of the rest of these councillors’ claims for their biographies.

Don’t we get to hear what it’s like to be Provincial Grand Standard Bearer for Hertfordshire? Can we get a snap of Cllr Stoodley in his uniform? preferably with his ensign

  3. Cllr Willy Stoodley

@ Linda – I said I was a rep not a committee member & I emailed Camilla with my apologies for that meeting. Wonderful thing about emails – you can prove them! I’ve noted with a lot of these outside bodies that they often neglect to let one know that a meeting is taken place although it is not always anyone’s fault – when I met the HADS secretary at one of West Harrow’s functions she didn’t know I was a rep! So just email me at willstoodley@yahoo.com and I shall do my very best to attend (if I’m still a rep now that is). I also told Kieth I couldn’t make that last one-guess he forgot to tell you!
@ Praxis – you can have the bloody thing if you-re really that interested-I left ages ago!

Gosh, it seems like an awful lot of effort to work your way through the three degrees, become Worshipful Master of the Sprig of Acacia and PGStB, but then quit. Surely Bohemian Grove or the Bilderberg meetings were within your grasp?

  5. Cllr Willy Stoodley

Gosh also Praxis – coz you haven’t done your research very well! Actually I did all that TWICE for them and am the only member of that lodge to have done so since it was first founded over a hundred years ago. I was first in the Chair in 2003. I was also in the Royal Arch btw – suggest you research that too? The more you find out the more points I shall give you!

Ho Ho, your Grand Ego has lead you astray… I have no special interest in you or your medals, just The Brotherhood as a whole, and seeing that there are no funny handshakes going on round the back of the Civic centre.

Would you have been more impressed if I’d have said Principal Sojourner, or did you make MEZ yet? I keep hearing that none of those degrees rank any higher than the third… Either way, I shall award myself 3,318 points!

  7. Cllr Willie Stoodley

@ Praxis – what on earth makes you think I have a “Grand” (hohoho!!) ego, or any at all come to that? And what makes you think it’s led (note spelling Praxis!) me astray?! Not bothered – just curious… You say you have no interest in me or my medals yet you’ve taken what must have been a considerable amount of your presumably valuable spare time to look it all up! Which would suggest that you ARE interested!! A delightful oxymoron Praxis.

I was neither MEZ nor Principal Sojourner so I am deducting 226 points for sloppy research which leaves you on 3,092 – if your resoursefulness susses out the significance of THAT I’ll gladly buy you a pint!

So far as it all works I’d be delighted to tell you – just call for a chat or arrange a meet if you’re brave enough to drop your cloak of anonymity… But I would say this – the Rose Walk has a meeting almost every day and every meeting raises around £300-£500 so that’s around £200,000 p.a. that the Watford Council Tax payers would have to find for local charities such as Prince Michael of Kent Court, the Macmillan Nurses and others, were the Rose Walk to close.

If by “funny handshakes” you mean corruption, you’re more likely to find that in a golf club than a lodge. All I can say is I never saw any.

  8. Cllr Willie Stoodley

PS – Royal Arch is not a degree – nor are any of the “others”.

  9. Praxis Reform

I don’t see you listed at Elstree Chapter, so you might want to have a quick word with the compilers of the Herts yearbook, where they’ve listed W. Stoodley as Principal Sojourner at the Sprig of Acacia… But then, we both know what Albert Pike says about using false explanations and misinterpretations “to mislead those who deserve only to be mislead”.

A man’s got to have a hobby, and mine is keeping tabs on Devil worshipping cults that could be up to dodgy dealings and improper favours. In the last month, David Griffiths over in your Monmouthshire province, and Rheinallt Jenkins of Trevor Kelway Lodge. The first of which has been found guilty of swindling £90,000 and the second of which is still being investigated.

The only special interest I have is in the one with 8,255 points, but I’m often able to point those who think that some local official is up to no good in the right direction, even if this means telling them that they’re barking up the wrong tree and have no evidence (you’ll likely be pleased to hear).

P.s. You might want to adjust the Wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Royal_Arch#Orders_and_Degrees which states
“the Order of the Royal Arch consists of a single ‘Royal Arch’ degree”
