Harrow-on-the-Hill Labour Councillor Throws in the Towel

labour_roseLabour councillor Ann Gate, wife of disgraced Cllr Brian Gate who received a police caution for child porn offences, has decided to give up on Harrow and it’s fragmented, scandal-hit Labour group.

With effect from October 1, 2013, Cllr Ann Gate will be resigning from the troubled party, and moving to a new home in Gloucestershire, having clearly decided she’s had enough of the place.

iharrow.com asked the Harrow Labour Group on what date Cllr Gate resigned, whether she subsequently withdrew her resignation, and whether – as rumoured – she finally resigned a second time – but the group has stonewalled those questions. Likewise, Cllr Gate herself has been schum on the whole affair.

Additionally, we asked both the Council’s Chief Executive and the Leader of the Labour Group, Cllr David Perry, a week ago if this rumour was in fact true: the Council took legal advice and refused to comment, leaving it to Cllr Perry to fumble around for a few days putting together a bland statement for release to the press. Telephone calls to the Labour Group’s office went unanswered.

Whether there will be a by-election in Harrow-on-the-Hill remains to be seen – the ward is represented by Cllr David Gawn  (a convicted fraudster) who was originally Labour before becoming an Independent, and Cllr Simon Williams for the Conservatives.
