Harrow rec to host musical marathon – September 9, 2012

Harrow Recreation Ground will come alive with music on Sunday 9 September, marking the end of an amazing summer of sport and culture on the final day of the Paralympic Games

Local musicians will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take part in the Bandstand Marathon, the largest closing cultural event of the London 2012 cultural Olympiad. The performances held on Harrow Recreation Ground will be one of hundreds of outdoor community concerts taking place simultaneously across the country, making up the Bandstand Marathon.

The day will showcase the best local talent and an eclectic musical programme including bands, groups, choirs & individual musicians. This free event will entertain audiences from 1-5pm, offering everyone who comes along a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of the nationwide finale celebrations for London 2012.

Councillor David Perry, Harrow Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community and Cultural Services said: “I am delighted that Harrow will be part of the Bandstand Marathon. It’s a great way to showcase Harrow’s talent and celebrate our rich diversity, and it promises to be a great event. Supporting and promoting both the Olympics and the Paralympic games is very important to us in Harrow. We want our residents to feel part of the celebrations, and the Bandstand Marathon is just another example of our commitment to this. There is a genuine interest and excitement about London 2012 here and Harrow Council is committed to creating an Olympic legacy in our borough.”
