Harrow To Take Part in London New Year’s Day Parade

london_new_year_paradeJoin Harrow and cheer them on a Magical Music Ride as the borough takes part in the 30th London New Year’s Day Parade on 1 January 2016.

With the theme Magical Music Ride, Harrow’s entry will celebrate music over the last three decades with a remix machine playing some iconic songs. Life-like music idols Freddie Mercury, Amy Winehouse, Elton John and Mel B – hand crafted by volunteers – will also star in Harrow’s entry, twirling to the music.

Volunteers from Wiseworks, Harrow Young Musicians and dancers from Kidology spent the last two months preparing the entry and the dance routine. They are now adding the final touches to what promises to be a spectacular event.

On New Year’s Day, Harrow will compete against other boroughs across the capital. The free event is expected to feature more than 10,000 performers. It begins midday on Friday 1 January in Piccadilly and ends around 3.30pm at Parliament Street.

Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Krishna Suresh said: (during a test run on Wednesday):  “It’s fantastic to see the community come together and help this fantastic entry come to life, so I’d like to say a big thank you to all our volunteers and everyone who has been involved. In particular Wiseworks who have worked extremely hard in crafting this year’s float with music icons over the last 30 years – they look incredible.”

He continued: “I ask everyone to come and join us on the day, cheer Harrow and of course sing and dance to some top hits from the last 30 years. The 2016 parade will be magical with a special dance routine from Kidology not to be missed. We’re going to give it our best shot and hope to come first this year.”
