Harrow Youth Volunteers Honoured by Mayoress

harrow_council_logoHarrow Mayoress Awula Serwah gave a group of students an extra Christmas treat by organising a reception at the Mayor’s Parlour to officially recognise their efforts in volunteering as waiters at last November’s Mayoress Ball.

The volunteers were presented with “thank you” certificates by Harrow Mayor Cllr Nana Asante and Borough Commander Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens.

“It must have been hard work, but I hope you enjoyed it a little bit and learnt something from it,” said Ch Supt Ovens, who was a guest at the Ball.

“My advice to you would be that you can achieve anything that you want to achieve,” he said in his pep talk. He suggested that people are generally happy to give tips as to how they achieved their positions in life, “but you have to make your own luck. You have to make your own ambition, and you have to put the work in it,” before adding the Biblical adage: “You reap what you sow.”

“After their hard work serving over a hundred guests, I thought it would be nice for our young volunteers to be seated and served,” explained the Mayoress.
