Harrow’s Ex-Chief Exec – New role in LGA

Michael Lockwood_ 150px x 208pxBack in February, we reported that ex-Harrow Chief Exec Michael Lockwood has popped up at the Local Government Association as Interim Finance chap. We’re now glad to see he’s ensconced into a permanent role there as Executive Director for Local Government Finance and Policy.

According to the LGA:

Michael Lockwood joined the LGA in March 2014 as Executive Director for Local Government Finance and Policy, with over 15 years of chief executive experience in local government.

Michael previously worked as Chief Executive of the London Borough of Harrow. During his time there, it made vast improvements in performance and financial position. This was recognised when Harrow won the ‘Best Achieving Council of the Year’ award at the MJ Awards 2011/12.

He became the first district chief executive to make the jump straight to chief executive of a London Borough, having previously been Chief Executive of Elmbridge Borough Council. He left Elmbridge as an excellent graded council (in the top five in the country) and it was also voted the best place to live in England.

Michael is a qualified CIPFA accountant with a background in audit and a wealth of experience across public and private sectors. He has worked in central government at the National Audit Office and in the private sector at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
