Harrow’s Fairtrade Summit 2014 – February 18, 2014

fairtrade_logoHarrow Council is committed to achieving Fairtrade borough status and this month will host its annual Fairtrade summit on Tuesday, 18 February 2014.

Residents and members of community groups in Harrow are invited to the summit led by the Harrow Fairtrade Campaign. The summit will highlight Harrow’s Fairtrade story to date, as well as a celebrate Harrow Central Mosque becoming the first Fairtrade Mosque in London.

Chairperson of the Harrow Fairtrade Steering Group Cllr Nana Asante said: “This is an opportunity for everyone to see how well we are doing and commit to doing their little bit to make Harrow a Fairtrade borough. Fairtrade is about trade justice and being part of creating a fairer world.

The summit will highlight how schools, businesses and community groups in the borough can support the campaign. I hope to see as many people come to this event and contribute their ideas and thoughts on new ways we can work together to provide equality and fairness.”

The Council has been supporting Fairtrade since 2005 and has been using products with the Fairtrade mark. Ethical considerations are also part of our contracts.

The summit on Tuesday will also introduce Fairtrade fortnight which begins on Monday 24 February – this years theme is Going Bananas, and focuses on making the banana trade fair . There will be a range of activities and events planned for these two weeks.

    Excellent to hear Harrow Central Mosque is becoming London’s first Fairtrade Mosque.Good to see Harrow supporting this venture since so many years,spear-headed by Nana Asante.Wish you the very best.Please carry on supporting.
