“I am not available to deal with e-mails at the moment…” says Harrow Labour Councillor

harrow_council_logoOh dear.

We’re just a few days into Labour taking control of Harrow Council (and, of course, moving back to their old office with the nice expensive glass wall and en-suite kitchen sink) and one of their councillors, who shall remain nameless, has decided she’s “not available” to deal with emails:

I am not available to deal with e-mails at the moment. If you need to contact a councillor urgently please ring me on 07875 XXXXXX. Xxx.

And it’s been this way for a week or so, according to other emails we’ve seen.

Dave: surely this wasn’t the way you hoped things would pan out, was it? Didn’t one of your councillors last year land up in a Standards Hearing for distancing himself from his constituents?

Bet she’s available to claim her £8,000 a year allowance, though.

  1. Honest and Open

Seriously? Please name and shame this Cllr.

Will she be unavailable when they want to pay her expenses into her bank account?

Just a thought – if David Perry has not been seen since the stag party maybe she went to the hen party! Risky events these as they seem to make people disappear.

  3. Bill Phillips, and

This is ridiculous. It takes a while to set up the new email accounts and train the councillors how to to use the council’s secure IT system. Some councillors are not computer literate.

This councillor should be praised for at least having the wit to ask for an “out of office” message to be sent so people have a way to contact them urgently.

Totally agree this particular Councillor has stated “If you need to contact a councillor urgently please ring me on….” so what’s the problem?

    If that’s true…

Outrageous. Councillors should not hide behind such messages.
