Mayor of Harrow announces nominated Charities

harrow_council_logo2Harrow Council’s New Mayor has chosen to raise money for two creative charities, which support some of the borough’s most vulnerable residents.

Mayor Cllr Nana Asante has chosen Flash Musicals and Harrow Community Choir for her Mayoral Appeal.

Flash Musicals helps low-income, disadvantaged and disabled children get involved in the performing arts, while Harrow Community Choir is an award-winning service that helps people with mental health problems and their carers to build self confidence, socialise and learn to perform in public on a regular basis.

On hearing that Flash Musicals had been selected, Terry Revill Founder and Project Co-ordinator of the group, said: “Having the Mayor pledge her support for Flash Musicals is a huge honour and we are excited about the year ahead. We have worked with Harrow Council closely in the past and are very happy that the Mayor herself will be providing support.”

The Choir Director of Harrow Community Choir, David Phelops, himself a former harrow Mental Health Service user, said: “The Harrow Community choir gives those with mental health problems the opportunity to socialise, make friends and increase self confidence. We are delighted that the Mayor has chosen us as one of her nominated charities and look forward to working with her in the coming year.”

Cllr Asante has been a long term supporter of both charities.

She said: “Both Flash Musicals and Harrow Community Choir are truly inspirational charities and I hope to raise as much money for them as possible during my Mayoral term and I will be involving them in events as much as possible.”
