McDonalds Shaftesbury Circle – Drive Thru’ Approved

Something that didn’t appear to gather much attention this time around was McDonald’s planning application for massive groundworks and construction of a drive-thru’ lane at their restaurant in Shaftesbury Circle. Having been defeated by local campaigns when they last tried this over the last ten years, it seems that this time, no campaign group was organised in opposition to the application.

The plans show a major change in the layout, and have attracted only three objections into Harrow’s Planning Portal this time around – are residents now more accepting of a drive thru’ or are they simply too apathetic to do anything about it?

One of the objections centered around anti-social behaviour from patrons, although I would have thought that the poor exit onto Porlock Avenue was more of an issue.

Work is now underway on the landscaping there, and we’d expect it to be completed in the next month or two. You can view the full application on Harrow’s Planning Portal by searching for application number P/0971/11 or a plan of the site is available here.

It’s worth mentioning that the drive thru’ is only permitted to open between 07.00 – 23.00 Monday to Saturday, and 08.00 – 23.00 on Sundays. At least, until McDonald’s make a further application to vary the times.
