New Christmas Lights Come to Belmont Circle

christmas_lightsBelmont Circle will be a more attractive destination for shoppers this Christmas, after the area’s local councillors organised funding for festive lights. Cllrs. Manji Kara, Mina Parmar and Lynda Seymour are funding the lights from their Neighbourhood Investment Scheme allowance – and the fittings can be reused for Christmas and other religious festivals in future years. The lights will be switched on by Harrow East MP Bob Blackman, at 7pm on Friday 5th December, with local shops offering refreshments to shoppers and visitors from 6pm.

Cllr. Kara said: “We’re so pleased to be able to help out the businesses in Belmont Circle, and are delighted these lights will become a permanent fixture at Christmas and during other festive seasons. These businesses work very hard to make the area an enticing destination for shoppers, and our hope is these lights will support their efforts. We’re hoping for a real crowd, and I’m very grateful to Bob Blackman for agreeing to switch the lights on for us.”

Dipesh Patel who owns and runs Eye 2 Eye Opticians in the Circle, said: “I’m so excited we’re finally getting these lights. We’ve been trying to arrange this for many years, so we’re thrilled our local councillors have now made it happen. This is great for the area as Belmont Circle is not the busiest, but these lights will really put us on the map and make us more attractive for shoppers. I know the switching-on is already going down really well with local residents and schoolchildren, and it’s my hope that these lights will help the Circle retain its distinctive village-like feel.”
