Chorleywood LitFest: Clive Stafford Smith – November 8, 2012

Thursday 8th November

Clive Stafford Smith at the Chorleywood Literary Festival

Clive Stafford Smith has spent 30 years representing clients in the USA and received many accolades worldwide for his human rights work. In this book he tells the gripping story of one man accused of murder and badly represented at his original trial. Despite the compelling evidence which later emerged that the wrong man is on Death Row, by following the extraordinary twists and turns of that case, he lays bare the American justice system and argues, compellingly, that it is designed to ignore innocence and makes disasters like this inevitable. This extraordinary story is a powerful thriller, beautifully told. For anyone with a view on the efficacy of legal systems or on the death penalty this story will prove both compelling, thrilling and thought provoking. After his talk and answering questions from the audience Clive will be signing his book.
