Co-operatives Fortnight – June 5 to July 5 2014

voluntary_action_harrowMembers of staff from Voluntary Action Harrow will be showing their love for this year’s Co-operatives Fortnight campaign as they discuss decision making and co-operative working with Voluntary and Community Sector Leaders.

To mark this year’s Co-operatives Fortnight (21 June to 5 July 2014) on Thursday 3 July 2014 between 6pm – 8pm at the Lodge, 64 Pinner Road, Harrow, Middlesex, HA1 4HZ delegates will be looking at the ways board members can become more confident that their strategic direction is in the best interest of the organisation, and that risks are being appropriately managed.

Co-operatives Fortnight is the co-operative movement’s annual awareness campaign, aiming to help people become more familiar with co-operatives in their local area.

“Co-operative businesses aren’t just the food stores, pharmacies and funeral care services that most people are used to seeing on the high street. The movement is truly diverse covering everything from bakeries to bicycle stores, childcare providers to cheese producers and farms to football clubs.”

Alex Buckmire, a worker at Voluntary Action Harrow said: “Co-operatives work to a unique business model, they are owned by their members, not shareholders, and give them a chance to have a say in how the business is run, as well as a share of the benefits. Our clients here in Harrow tell us they love the trusted co-operative experience and now we want to encourage people to discover other types of co-operatives we know they’ll love just as much. And if anyone is interested in the co-operative model contact us and we’ll give you as much information as possible.”
