Harrow Harmony Spring Concert – March 21, 2015

harrow_harmony_choirHarrow Harmony would like to announce details of its Spring Concert 2015 which will include a WORLD PREMIÈRE to take place in Northwood in March

Harrow Harmony is a 55 strong amateur, non-auditioning mixed voices choir based in South Harrow. It was formed in September 1999 and as part of its 15th Anniversary celebrations this year, Harrow Harmony has commissioned a new piece of music, which has been composed by Philip Lawson, former member of the Grammy Award-winning vocal group The King’s Singers. This follows on from Philip’s arrangements of three north-east-England folk songs, which were also specially commissioned to commemorate the choir’s 10th Anniversary in 2009. The new piece is entitled Sing We And Chant It and has lyrics taken from various Elizabethan madrigals including Now Is The Month Of Maying and Sing We And Chant It, both with original melodies by Thomas Morley (1557 – 1602) and celebrates the joy of singing. The choir is looking forward very much to performing this challenging piece, which will have its world première at our Spring Concert in March 2015, details of which are below. This commission is dedicated to Heather Lee, a former choir member who sadly passed away in July 2009.

Conductor Hilary Musgrave says “Harrow Harmony is once again delighted to be associated with Philip Lawson and his new composition, commissioned for our 15th Anniversary Year. We are all excited to be performing the première of Sing We And Chant It at our next concert.”

Our Spring Concert is the second in our anniversary year. As well as Sing We And Chant It the concert programme will include another 16th century piece If Ye Love Me by Thomas Tallis as well as Gloria In Excelsis Deo from Vivaldi’s Gloria and Fields Of Gold by G M Sumner (otherwise known as Sting), both of which can be found on our Concert Celebration CD which is still available to purchase.
