Harrow’s Food and Dance Festival – March 17, 2012

Harrow Town Centre will be transformed on Saturday 17th March with the arrival of the first ever Harrow Food and Dance Festival.

Organised by Harrow Council, and supported by the Mayor of London’s Outer London Fund, the all day festival will celebrate and showcase the borough’s diverse world cuisine, music and dance.

Andy Stubbs, Harrow Town Centre Manager, said:

“March 17th is the day to come and enjoy a real flavour of what Harrow has to offer.

“It will be a celebration of all the tastes, sights and sounds that make our diverse borough such a great place to visit and live.”

From 11am St Ann’s Road will be the place for food lovers to tuck in, with a farmers market and continental food stalls, street food stalls and a demonstration kitchen. Organisers are inviting local restaurants, cafes and food producers to take part or organise promotions in their own premises on the day.

Around the corner in St John’s Road, broadcaster and comedienne London Hughes will compere an outstanding line up of 19 professional and community acts on an open air dance stage. To celebrate St Patrick’s Day, Irish dancers will both kick off the show at 11am and bring the curtain down after six hours of continuous free entertainment at 5pm.

The inaugural event is devised and delivered by the Council in its ongoing programme to revitalise Harrow Town Centre and promote business. It is funded by a grant the Council secured from the Mayor of London’s Outer London Fund.

Cllr Keith Ferry, portfolio holder for planning and economic development on Harrow Council, said

“The Festival is a first for Harrow and will show off the best of the borough’s food and culture with a huge range of tastes, sights and sounds on offer throughout the day.

“There will be something for everyone, with free entertainment and a mix of food to suit all taste buds. We are also working to get as many local restaurants, cafes and food producers involved too and our hope is that this becomes a major annual event on the calendar.

“Supporting the town centre and local businesses is a top priority for the Council and this exciting event is the latest in our programme of activity.

“Put the date in your diary now for what promises to be a great day of entertainment for the whole family in Harrow Town Centre.”

St Ann’s Shopping Centre is separately hosting a fashion and beauty show on the same day from 11am to 4pm. A beauty zone area will be set up near the fashion catwalk where shoppers can have make-over’s and treatment taster sessions.
