20101020_ibd_2Date: 8/11/2014
Venue: 1030 – 1530

The hospital opens its doors and welcomes Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis sufferers and their families for its annual IBD Open Day. Now in its fourth year, the event is designed to further people’s understanding of the diseases and to offer information regarding treatment and care.

The day will be divided into three parts. There is the morning session with talks which will focus on both the medical and surgical sides to managing the disease. During the lunch break, sandwiches and soup will be served to guests thanks to G4S our sponsors. Also at this time, further talks will be given covering both the basics of IBD and Children with the disease. After lunch, presentations will feature the subjects of IBD Research, Diet and Investigations – such as scans, scopes and blood tests. All talks are given by experienced and expert staff from the hospital.

Throughout the morning session and lunch break, there will be ample opportunity to visit the various visiting stalls. The list is growing but at present the stalls will include the Stoma Care Team, Dietitians, Pharmacists, IBD Nurses, Smoking Cessation, Friends of St. Mark’s, St. Mark’s Hospital Foundation, Crohn’s & Colitis UK, Crohn’s in Childhood Research Association (CICRA), Inside Out Stoma Support. Nursing staff and representatives from charities and support groups will be on hand to answer questions at their stalls during lunch.

The whole event is designed for patients, carers and families and friends of those affected. It is always an interesting and informative day. Space is limited however, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
