North Harrow’s Evening ‘Event’ – October 31, 2011

North Harrow, an area of the Borough described by shoppers as “…dreary, run-down and very dead…” is  holding ‘The Event’  during which local shops and businesses will stay open until 8.30pm, whilst local schools and community groups put on some performances.

Plans are already underway for Irish and Bollywood dancing, street dance, and choirs along Station Road and Pinner Road that evening.

North Harrow has suffered badly over the last few years, with the loss of it’s local Lloyds TSB Bank last year, and it’s supermarket in the years before that. According to Council figures, 25% of the shops there are empty – so much so, it prompted the Council to set up a ‘fake shop’ to try to brighten the area up. However, things appear to be looking up: new business are arriving in North Harrow, and bringing fresh blood to the area.

“The Event is all about showing off the great range of shops and services in North Harrow and creating a real buzz about the area. ” – Latha Kathir, North Harrow Traders Assoc.

The Event is on October 31st, with local performances starting from 6.30pm.
