Open Air Ice-Skating in Uxbridge – Winter 2012

Just a few minutes train ride away (Picadilly or Metropolitan lines), the Hillingdon Ice Rink is a great Christmas experience.

The rink opens this year on November 30, 2012 right through to New Years Day, and you can book tickets in advance from November 17, 2012. Tickets have been frozen at last year’s prices: adults: £5 (off peak)and £7 (peak); children and concession tickets: £3.50 (off peak) and £5.50 (peak) or family tickets £14 (off peak) and £20 (peak).

Discounts for uniformed groups and ‘set fee’ sessions for schools will also be available. Off-peak times are Monday to Friday (except Boxing Day and New Year’s Day), 10am to 3pm (last session from 2pm).

More than 17,000 visitors enjoyed skating at the ice rink in Uxbridge last year, organised by Hillingdon Council.

Councillor Henry Higgins, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure said: “The ice rink is always a popular winter attraction in Hillingdon, and it’s a great way to enjoy a bit of exercise too. We saw record numbers of people enjoying themselves last year, and with prices frozen yet again I’m sure this year will be an even bigger hit.”

Booking opens on 21 November, and you can book online through  www.hillingdon.gov.uk/icerink.

There will be penguin stabilisers for children on the ice. The penguins provide support for small children and help to boost confidence and reduce the risk of injury.

Festive music will also be played over the sound system for skaters to enjoy during their session. Skaters are advised to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of their session to allow sufficient time to be fitted with skates. Skate and penguin hire is included within the cost of the ticket.
