Operation Easter Airlift at Hendon RAF Museum: March 28 – April 5, 2013

On Good Friday 1949 the Berlin Airlift reached its height. In total by the end of the operation over 400,821 tonnes of food, coal and supplies were carried by over 689 aircraft, including RAF aircraft to the city, which had been cut off from the rest of the world by Russia.

Taking inspiration from our display in the Battle of Britain Hall, String of Pearls, make your own parachute and origami supply box, so that you may drop your own supplies from a height. All materials will be supplied free of charge.

This activity is suitable for children aged 5 and above, though younger children are welcome to participate. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult, who can assist them, if required, with the making of the origami box. This activity will take place in the Museum’s Halton Gallery daily from 11am to 1pm and from 2pm to 4pm.
