Pinner Jazz: Jean Toussaint Quintet featuring Jay Phelps – October 18, 2014

pinner_jazzSaturday, 18 October 2014 – JEAN TOUSSAINT QUINTET featuring JAY PHELPS

We’re thrilled that the distinguished tenor-saxophonist Jean Toussaint will be bringing his all-star quintet to Pinner. Toussaint, a native of St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, came to Britain first with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers in the 1980s and returned to teach at the Guildhall School. He’s a premier-division player and a vital force in local modern circles and on recent evidence in the form of his life. His team of many talents includes the mercurial young Canadian trumpeter and bandleader Jay Phelps, a recent guest with Wynton Marsalis’s Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, plus Edition Records artist Andrew McCormack on piano, Larry Bartley on bass and Troy Miller on drums. Ian Carr described Toussaint as ‘a consummate technician with a fine lyrical flair’. Rightly so. www.jayphelpsmusic.com.
