Top bollywood dancers join Harrow’s Under One Sky line up

U1S_logo_2_Bollywood dance school “Sapnay Dance” have joined the line up for Under One Sky, Harrow Council’s Community Festival now in its 8th year. This will be Sapnay’s biggest performance since making it to the Semi Finals in Sky1’s “Got To Dance” TV Talent show last year.

The renowned dancers will be joining a fantastic line-up of performers including Harrow’s own Tonic Choir; and the wonderful Ska Cubano who will be performing in Harrow hot from Glastonbury 2013. This year’s Under One Sky will be held at a new venue: Byron Park, Wealdstone, from 12.30pm to 9pm on Sunday, June 30 2013.

Ash Oberoi, Artistic Director for Sapnay Dance, said that the dancers are “really looking forward to the festival.” She added: “We have performed at Under One Sky before and it’s a great festival. It’s an excellent way of showcasing ourselves and letting people know what we do. It’s also great for opening doors within the community. Everybody has a lot of fun and it really allows you to get to know one another – it creates “communal harmony.”

The group made it through to the semi finals of “Got to Dance” on Sky 1 last year, after being short listed from over 3,000 applicants. Reminiscing about the group’s TV fame, Ash said: “Now that was really fantastic, from the minute we started to the very end. It was such a great achievement and I was so pleased at how far we got, especially as a bollywood group.”

Ash has promised Harrow something new for their festival performance. She said: “We are well known for our great choreography and routines, and we are all about bringing something new and fresh to the table. For Under One Sky we will be doing a bollywood dance mixed together with a bit of street dance and hip hop, but you’ll have to come and see us to find out more!”

Up to 10,000 people are expected at Harrow’s premier open air festival which showcases local talent and is the chance for families and friends to come together and enjoy the rich diversity that Harrow has to offer. There’s something for everyone at this year’s festival with more than 100 acts and activities which will keep children and adults entertained throughout the day. The festival will also feature a carnival parade; food and craft stalls; open air cinema; outdoor pool; dance village and a funfair and children’s village.

Festival goers will find a wealth of information and advice from experts at numerous marquees, stands, and stalls. Find out more about local services, gain advice on employment opportunities, as well as starting up or expanding your own business at Harrow Council’s Enterprise Village. Healthy living help and advice can be found at the Sports and Healthy Lifestyle marquee from NHS Northwest London, Watford and Barnet Football Clubs, Harrow Leisure Centre and Harrow Council’s Sports Development Team.

Harrow Council Portfolio Holder for Community and Cultural Services, Cllr David Perry, said: “Sapnay Dance is a great addition to a fantastic line up and I’m sure Harrow will turn out in force to cheer them on. I’m incredibly proud of the hard work that is going into the eighth Under One Sky Festival which is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever before. I would like to see as many people come along as possible and enjoy the fun with us – you can’t fail to have a good time. It’s the perfect opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate our diverse borough.”

Local resident Darshana Natha of Cunningham Park, Harrow, added: “Under One Sky is an excellent way of finding out what’s going on in the local community as well as enjoying some great entertainment. It’s always well organised by Harrow Council and you can tell a lot of hard work goes into the planning of this event. I will definitely take my little boy along this year and I’ve spoken to some of the mums at our local school to make sure they are there as well.”
