Gareth Says: 1,000 Harrow Households Hit by Bedroom Tax

gareth_thomas_headshotGareth Thomas MP has today revealed National Housing Federation figures which show approximately 1,000 households in Harrow will be hit by the Government’s ‘Bedroom Tax’, each losing on average£1,092 per year.

The Bedroom Tax will hit 80,000 households in London, part of 660,000 affected households across Britain, two thirds of them home to someone with a disability, and including foster families and families of soldiers serving overseas.

This comes at exactly the same time as the Government gives a massive £100,000 tax cut to 13,000 millionaires.

Harrow West MP Gareth Thomas said: “David Cameron’s Bedroom Tax will hammer families in Harrow already struggling to make ends meet, and could actually risk costing local taxpayers a fortune in higher private rents

and covering the cost of driving people out of their homes. Two thirds of the households hit are home to someone with a disability, and the families of soldiers and foster parents will also be hit. Yet at the same time millionaires are getting a massive tax cut. How can that be right?”

This is not a “tax”. It is a reduction in benefit for people with spare rooms. Why should families have to wait years on a waiting list for a suitable home, when other people are living in larger council homes than they need?

So why don’t we swap them over?! & the bedroom tax takes no account of disabilities. Anyway it’s a more sinister issue than that Stephen. They’re out to dismantle as much welfare state as they can before they lose the 2015 election. Cameron, Clegg, Osborne, Soames et al and I were all at top English public schools in the 1970s and it’s what we were indoctrinated with – this sick, sad ideology that benefit destroys the motivation to work, which is utter tosh. I was even taught this in the classroom would you believe?! I truly don’t think that what I would call “proper Tories” like in your Harrow group who weren’t subjected to the delights and privileges (that’s sarcasm btw) of a £35K pa boarding school education realise how much Cameron Cegg Osborne & chums are leading your party members up the garden path. They don’t care about you – they are a cliquey social elite and they only care about themselves; believe me – I was at school with them!
