Gareth Says: Disappointed at Northwick Park’s Performance

gareth_thomas_headshot1In the September issue of his emailed newsletter, Gareth Thomas MP expresses his disappointment at Northwick Park’s failure to meet it’s A&E targets. He writes:

A&E crisis at Northwick Park

I was disappointed, although not surprised, to see recent figures showing that the Trust that runs Northwick Park Hospital has failed to meet Accident & Emergency targets for every week of the past winter. Worryingly, Northwick Park has the second worst record of all the 22 NHS Trusts serving London.

Over 13,000 patients were forced to wait over four hours for treatment at local A&E departments, yet Government Ministers are closing down the nearby Central Middlesex and Ealing Hospital A&E departments, adding even greater to pressure to the already over-stretched staff at Northwick Park.

I want to hear about your experiences at Northwick Park Hospital – do you feel your treatment was affected negatively in any way? Are you worried about the impact A&E closures at Central Middlesex and Ealing will have on Northwick Park Hospital?

Email me on gareth.thomas.mp@parliament.uk.

Residents – and voters – might be wondering if Gareth is barking up the wrong tree here. After all, if the ‘brand new state of the art hospital’ that Gareth had ‘secured £305 million of investment to build’ had actually happened, maybe he wouldn’t be so disappointed. Our enquiries of Gareth’s office to see what happened to to that proved fruitless, thus leaving us to think it was merely pre-election spin.

Two problems spring to mind. Firstly pressure on maternity and other services by newcomers presenting with difficulties. Nothing to do with The Shadow Minister For Standing Outside Buildings and Labour opening our borders without proper control eh? Secondly, the huge pressures brought on by the Shadow Minister For Standing Outside Buildings and his”New” Labour government that trashed the licencing laws meaning that A&E is overloaded with drunks and bloodied fight victims. No doubt we can look forward to months more of his bleating about the results of HIS party’s tinkering and ham-fisted tinkering. Still, Our Gareth can always do what he does best, with a group of the usual suspects, in mock outrage mode, Stand Outside the Building holding a sign. Oh by the way Gareth……. Who’s party and government was going to shut down Northwick Can’t Park A&E, Close or downgrade Mount Vernon scattering its specialist teams to the winds? Yep, that’s right YOURS, Labour, and in your case, the “Cooperative” Party within a Party as well. Funny how little you really achieved in 13 years of trashing everything you Party laid hands on, blowing billions on money-pit PFIs and leaving us with the bill and the debts. Gareth, you really don’t do irony do you?

Oh, forgot something Gareth. I have a nice A3 laminator in case you need a sign that will stand up to the rain.

As for that Magic Money Tree £305 million that Our Gareth the Shadow MFSOB “secured”…. It was a PFI, the same type of PFI that has virtually bankrupted so many hospitals. Shiny expensive new buildings crippled by long term debt that strips money from paying for staff, equipment and drugs to treat patients. THIS is Labour’s “legacy” impressive buildings with chaos or nothing inside, rather like Labour’s ideology innit!
