Hospital radio station raises £390 at heated pub quiz

What was Mickey Mouse’s original name? That was just one of the many questions thrown at teams at a charity pub quiz at the weekend.

With nine teams battling out for pub quiz champions, hospital radio station Radio Northwick Park members gathered at The Travellers Rest in Kenton on Saturday, 21st April.

And after a heated competition and a raffle, which included a year’s membership for Spotify and John Lewis gift vouchers, the charity celebrated raising £390.

The members who usually visit patients and present shows in Northwick Park Hospital gathered to raise money to put towards the running of the charity and projects to benefit the patients within the hospital.

Fundraising Officer Dan Cottrell said: “It was a packed pub quiz and great to see everyone’s competitive spirit. There was lots of banter, laughter and funds raised.”

Radio Northwick Park (charity number 274806) is an award-winning hospital radio station and has been broadcasting since 1971. It is run by volunteers to provide patient visiting and broadcasting entertainment to Northwick Park Hospital. The station broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week both around the hospital and online.

Oh, and Mickey’s original name? That was Mortimer. However, Lillian Disney, Walt‘s wife, believed the name “Mortimer” sounded too much like ‘mortified’ and ‘mortician’ and suggested the name Mickey instead, so “Mortimer” later became the name of Mickey’s rival.
