Volunteer Gears up to Cycle 655 miles for Charity

A volunteer from a hospital radio station is gearing up to cycle from London to Scotland – a staggering 655 miles – for the charity this month.

Charles Biggie is a volunteer at Radio Northwick Park, a charity that broadcasts to the patients of Northwick Park Hospital.

As one of the charity’s longest serving members, Charles will cycle from Hyde Park Corner in London to John O’Groats in Scotland. Starting on Friday 15th June, he hopes to complete the distance in eight days.

He said: “Although Radio Northwick Park is not a high profile national charity, it is a cause that’s close to my heart, as I’ve been a volunteer there for nearly 30 years.”

People can donate by visiting Charles’s JustGiving page at www.justgiving.com/CharliesLonJoG, or text to 70070 with the word LJOG66 by followed by £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10.

Charles, who volunteers every Tuesday and Sunday evening, said: “If you feel you can help out, every donation, no matter how small, will be gratefully received. Most people know of the therapeutic value of music, and the need to chat to a friendly face in the forbidding environment of a hospital, and this is what we at Radio Northwick Park hope to achieve everyday.”

All text donations are free and won’t come out of any inclusive texts.

Radio Northwick Park (charity number 274806) is an award-winning hospital radio station and has been broadcasting since 1971. It is run by volunteers to provide patient visiting and broadcasting entertainment to Northwick Park Hospital. The station broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week both around the hospital and online.
