Updated at 18.30 – the London Fire Brigade have posted this report on their website:

Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a fire in a house on Whitby Road in Harrow, HA2 this afternoon. The two storey end-of-terrace house was badly damaged by fire.

Wembley Fire Station Manager, Pushminder Vagarwal, who was at the scene, said: “A woman and two children escaped from the house before we got to the scene. They’d become trapped in the back garden so our crews led them to safety. A gas leak was discovered inside the house so around 30 people from surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution. Our crews did a great job in preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent houses.” A temporary hazard zone of 25 was set up as a precaution due to the gas leak. The gas supply was isolated and the area has since been declared safe. No one was injured in the incident.

The Brigade was called at 1447 and the fire was under control by 1730. Firefighters from Ealing, Wembley, Harrow, Southall and Northolt fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

No doubt more news will play out over the following few days, as investigations continue. We’ll leave it to the local press to run with this one.
