Grass fire at Old Redding

Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a grass fire on farmland on Old Redding in Harrow Weald yesterday evening. Around 15 hectares (about 37 acres) of farmland was damaged.

The London Fire Brigade was called at just after 6.00pm and the fire was under control by 7.30pm. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Anyone with any information should call their local police station via the 101 number.

There’s no suggestion that this was a deliberate act, and indeed, the recent run of hot, dry weather may have had something to do with it, but we’d point out that school holidays generally show an increase in arson and deliberate fire setting.
