Labour Will “make a difference” to Harrow Residents

labour_roseCllr David Perry, leader of the Labour Group:

It is absolutely laughable and ridiculous that we are two weeks away from an election and the only issues opposition parties are concerned about is playing petty party politics. The people of Harrow have before them a choice over which party is best placed to cater to their aspirations and run Harrow Council. Both the Tories and Independent Group have no ideas and seem obsessed with scandal and sleeze. Harrow Council is currently faced with major challenges, and quite frankly Harrow deserves better than this type of continuous negativity.

Instead of playing these petty games the Labour Group are more interested in having a positive discussion with residents about how we can ‘make a difference’ to Harrow. To that end our 5 key pledges are to:

  • Build more affordable homes and tackle rogue landlords to deal with our housing crisis.
  • Provide a period of free parking in our district shopping centres to support local businesses and residents.
  • Invest an extra £1m to tackle domestic violence; support carers and stand up for those in need.
  • Introduce on the spot fines for littering in our streets to help clean up Harrow
  • Create over 500 jobs and apprenticeships in Harrow to support our young people in to work.

When we have been out and about in Harrow these are the issues that we have been discussing with residents. This is politics as it should be, talking to residents about issues that matter to them.

On the May 22nd the people of Harrow have a choice to make, between cynical politics or Labour’s vision for Harrow, where we will help families with the cost of living crisis, and stand up for Harrow, its businesses and residents.

Cllr Perry you say “Both the Tories and Independent Group have no ideas and seem obsessed with scandal and sleeze”. Thats an incredible statement from you, By the way have you thrown out the two bullies yet from your cleaner than clean full of ideas Labour Party that are threatening the public in Rayners Lane.

It seems Labour in Harrow has already reneged on one of their key election manifesto commitments even before the election. The Labour leaflet I received two weeks ago stated very prominently that if elected they were going take action to alleviate cost of living crisis in Harrow. Now it appears to be no longer a priority. I was wondering how they were going to fund alleviation of such a crisis. But then their silence on whether or not they would increase the rates for all the residents speaks volumes. I suppose money is no object! Crisis, what crisis?

As for your 5 key pledges, we have already started the 20 mins free parking roll out across the borough so we have sorted that already. And Labour didn’t even get the ball rolling on that, the ILG did. We’re already progressing things so that the ability to fine for spitting and littering will be delivered in the near future, because we Conservatives thought about it months ago. We have for the first time created a Business position on Cabinet to help create jobs and apprenticeships. We are already dealing with rogue landlords through our work with ‘beds in sheds’ and HMO’s (Houses of multiple occupation) – something you didn’t touch in three years. We have also provided the Police with body cameras to assist in dealing with witness work around domestic violence. This leaves the building of new homes – how many did you build in your 3 years of power – none – so you can easily beat your previous score on that.

When I tried to engage on Labour’s promises to Harrow, by pointing out you’re going to replace Neighbourhood Champions, you said I was misleading everyone – even though that’s what your manifesto says. You’ve since confirmed you’d change the name, what they do, and cut the funding. But you’re not replacing them, apparently…

Let’s face it David, in 7 months we Conservatives have proved that we are fit to govern – we will provide a Cleaner Safer and Fairer Harrow. You clearly have not even noticed that we have already made major progress on all of the issues you want to call your pledges. Please wake up and pay attention if you want to try to keep up with us.

Susie can tell me exactly how many body cameras you have provided the police with and at what cost to the residents of Harrow. I thought that the metropolitan police were trialling body-cams across London.

Very well said Susan. David I don’t know who you are trying to impress with this it’s all very woolly. “A period of free parking” can you give us a clue as to how long?? Do you not agree with making spitting an offence as you have not included this in your pledge about littering? If not why not? Any clues as to how you’re going to create 500 jobs? What will you do about the supporting infrastructure for the new homes you’re going to build?

Finally what are you doing about the bullying Rayners Lane candidates?

THE BULLIES HAVE REMOVED THE POSTER I HAD IN MY OWN GARDEN. IS THERE ANY LAW AGAINST TRESSPASSING? IS THERE ANY END TO THIS?

AS FOR FINE FOR LITTERING, IT WAS CLLR IDAIKKADAR’S IDEA. NOT SUSAN’S. LOOK AT 2013 BUDGET PAPERS. IT WAS ON THE CORPORATE PLAN. TORIES REMOVED IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE FROM THE CORPORATE PLAN AND THEN REINTRODUCING IT. A LOT BEHIND THE IDEA. WHO WILL ENFORCE IT? ONLY THAYA HAS THE ANSWERS. BOTH PARTIES ARE COPYING HIS IDEAS AND CLAIMING IT IS THEIR OWN IDEA. APART FROM THAYA IS THERE ANY ONE THERE WITH ANY NEW IDEAS?

Labour seem to forget, we don’t have a housing crisis we have a mass over population crisis in part caused by offering FREE housing and a raft of benefits to the work shy and people that should not even be in the country qualifying for FREE tax-payer hand-outs. STOP housing benefit unless you’ve been in the borough or connected for at least 20 years. No housing benefit for under 30 year old’s. With ever dwindling resources time to put the English first in ENGLAND. Wake-up and smell the coffee. Not rocket science.

  7. Cllr Willy Stoodley

Patham – we have PLENTY MORE posters lol! don’t feel you’re alone. Nasty Labour thugs and bullies have been terrorising shop keepers all over Harrow, especially the Rayners Lane area, telling them they’re not allowed to put up our posters and they have to take them down. What you have to understand is that Labour in Harrow are terrified. They are so, so scared and very afraid. They are fighting a war on two fronts, they have a real battle on their hands against our 47 candidates and it’s never happened to them before; and when a weak bully gets scared they resort to the bullying tactics you mention. Generally nasty pieces of work masquerading as caring sharing socialists.

The other face of a bully is a coward. Can you tell me the names on the posters in Rayners Lane ward that make the bullies so afraid that they have to pull down the posters? What are the police and the returning officer doing about this thuggee culture that has invaded Harrow’s elections?

All I want is the thugs that help turn Harrow into a slum area are made to pay out of their own pockets for the clean-up Not the hard working tax-payers. Those that encouraged welfare for votes should be hounded out of the borough and made to pay financially from their own pockets. We need to bring back Common-Sense not Common-Purpose you know it makes sense.
