71 year old woman assaulted in Sudbury Hill

Harrow Police are appealing for witnesses to a heartless attack on an elderly woman whose handbag was stolen in Hartington Close [which is close to Sudbury Hill Rail Station – Ed.], Harrow on Tuesday 20 December at 10.30 pm.

The 71 year old woman, Joanne Weaver, who was walking home after a night out, was violently pushed from behind causing her to fall to the ground and injure her face. As she lay there, she felt her head being pushed further into the ground by her attacker.

The victim was treated for her injuries at a north west London hospital, where medical staff confirmed she had sustained a fractured to the bridge of her nose and required 40 stitches to her face.

Borough Commander, Chief Superintendent Dal Babu said:

“We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or heard anything at the time of the attack to contact us. We know that a small, light-coloured vehicle drove at speed towards the no through road in Hartington Close and reversed into a parking area outside Jem Paterson Court just before the woman was attacked.

“We are also linking this violent robbery with one that occurred earlier on the same evening in Brougham Road, Ealing at 6.40 pm in which a 25 year old woman was pulled to the ground and dragged along the pavement as the suspect tried to grab her handbag.

“The suspect in this attack was seen to get into a small light-coloured vehicle before driving off towards Horn Road.”

Anyone with any information about these incidents should call 101 and leave a message for the Duty Officer at Harrow Police Station or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
