Man fined for making false robbery report

On Monday 19 December, Ramesh Siva aged 24 of Uxbridge Road, Hayes was fined £80 for wasting police time, after falsely reporting that he had been the victim of a robbery near Wyvenhoe Road, South Harrow.

Siva, told police that he was approached by three men who pinned him up against a wall and took his new iPhone and a small amount of cash. He was unable to give officers a description of the suspects and they became suspicious of the allegation as inconsistencies started to appear as his account of the robbery unfolded.

This is an extremely frustrating waste of police time.”

After further questioning, Siva admitted to officers that he still had his phone and had made the whole story up in order to get a crime reference number so that he could make an insurance claim with the view to selling the phone.

Police Sergeant Tony McGovern of Harrow’s Robbery Squad said:

“This is an extremely frustrating waste of police time, where our resources could have been used more appropriately elsewhere. Siva also lied to officers about where he lived which meant a journey out of the borough to verify his identity, wasting even more valuable police time. We will continue to name and shame people guilty of making a false report.”
