Guest Post: Harrow Community Choir at

harrow_community_choirCheers, whistles and calls for MORE! reverberated through Elliott Hall on Tuesday evening……

The Harrow Community Choir lustily and effervescently singing Consider Yourself, with major audience participation, Emma Brooks (Co-conductor) smiling and encouraging the singers, while I, David Phelops (Co-conductor) wandered around the audience encouraging them to join in, clap, sing, stop texting and bring the community into the Harrow Community Choir.

We had proper Police protection, in the guise of Borough Commander Simon Ovens, who came and joined in with us. Several other enthusiastic attendees joined in too.

Having been kept standing in the extremely small, hot and cramped green room for twenty minutes, starting to wilt, we were glad to be catapulted onto the stage…. First time we’d seen the hall… Bright lights, hazy faces, Emma & I in danger of careering down the wheelchair ramp at any moment.

20141018_hcc_1The audience seemed to appreciate the fact that we were thrilled to have an audience bigger than the choir!

The choir sang through some old favourites:

Cabaret, Puttin’ on the Ritz, We Do Better (a song written especially for the choir to sing with Mind in Harrow) Goldfinger (after much discussion as to whether it was appropriate – yes! we decided) and , of course, finished off with that old call-to-community song – Consider Yourself…… which is where this writer came in.

20141018_hcc_2Thanks everyone who sang. I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone who cheered!
