News from Proscenium – January 2016

sundialBelated New Year greetings to you. Traditionally, we’d be getting ready to present the second play of our season just about now. However, the Compass Theatre is closed this month for renovations, so we have had to postpone our planned production (we’ll be staging it in January 2017 instead) and focus our attention on the rest of the season.

With that in mind, I’d like to tell you briefly about our next two plays, and ask you to make diary dates to support them both.

From April 13th to 16th we’re staging Noel Coward’s Waiting in the Wings. Set in a home for retired actresses, this wryly amusing piece is a wise and compassionate address of the problems of confronting old age “It’s the most lovely modern play I’ve played… cruel, but awfully funny” Sybil Thorndike

After that, and in line with the worldwide commemorations to mark 400 years since the death of Shakespeare, from June 15th to 18th we will present The Merry Wives of Windsor. Masques, mockery and mayhem reign, as the Bard of Avon flexes his comedic muscles and Mistresses Ford and Page get the better of Sir John Falstaff.

We look forward to welcoming you soon to a refurbished Compass Theatre.

With best wishes,
