Hannah David Reflects on the Success of Harrow Business Club

hannah_davidLast week a group of local business and community leaders gathered at the Grim’s Dyke Hotel for the latest meeting of Harrow Business Club. It has now been eight months since our first event, and the Club is proving to be a remarkable success.

As the driving force behind our economic recovery, small and medium sized enterprises have rightly been prioritised by the Conservative-led Government. Targeted schemes such as the enlarged start-up loans programme, and the funding for lending scheme, have both provided important sources of investments for firms in Harrow.

As the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Harrow West, I wanted to build on the Government’s efforts, and do more for the local business community. That is why I set up Harrow Business Club to give local business a platform from where they can represent themselves and grow.
The club to date has been a remarkable success, and our membership continues to grow. Each event features a presentation from a senior politician and a leader from the business community. It also presents an opportunity for local business people to come together in a spirit of cooperation.

Last week’s meeting featured a key note address from the Culture Secretary, Sajid Javid, undertaking one of his first public engagements following his appointment to the role. The minister is a financial industry expert, having spent 20 years working in the private sector working for organisations such as Chace Manhattan Bank and Deutsche Bank, where he was a Senior Managing Director.

20140626_hannahs_businessclubThe benefits of the club to local businesses are clear. Members have told me that the Harrow Business Club provides a valuable platform from which they can promote their businesses, and make connections with other local business people, and national business leaders. I am passionate about supporting the small and medium sized businesses that are creating an ever growing number of jobs in our community. The business club represents the first step in my campaign towards boosting Harrow’s economy, and unlocking its creative potential.
