Chiltern Railway – Proposed Timetable Changes

Chiltern Railways have published a draft of their proposed new timetable, which will commence on 9 December 2012.

There are significant alterations to the timetable, which involves switching to a regular interval timetable throughout the day. At peak times, where the most significant changes occur, this new timetable is intended to:

  • reduce gaps and intervals
  • offer a memorable pattern of service
  • increase the number of seats available, with over 700 additional seats provided in the morning peak period
  • enable further improvements in punctuality

This covering letter summarises the changes. The December 2012 draft timetable is attached to this letter. This note is written at summary level and not every change has been detailed, hence it is advisable to also check the full detail of the timetable to get a complete picture of the changes.

The changes have been designed to ensure train services are tailored to the number of passengers using trains along the route. This does mean that some locations will receive slightly fewer trains. At most stations where the number of stops is reduced, this is balanced by improvements in the spacing of trains however at Saunderton the peak service frequency will reduce to hourly. This difficult decision has been taken as passenger numbers are low compared to many other locations on the route and frequent alternative services are available at Princes Risborough and High Wycombe.

At weekends, the service is essentially the same as todays. On the West Midlands and High Wycombe route, the departure times of trains have been changed in the same way as the weekday
service, in order to improve performance between Banbury and Birmingham.

Please see the attached proposal for each service (all in .PDF format), below, and let Chiltern Railways have your comments by June 15th 2012.
